Natural monuments and attractiveness

The heart of The Jeseníky Mountains is the protected landscape area of Jeseníky. It was established at borders of Olomouc and Moravia-Silesia regions in 1969 and has 740 sq km. 80% of the area is covered by forests. The most precious parts of the landscape area of Jeseníky are protecte in four national natural reservations (Praděd, Šerák-Keprník, Revíz, Rašeliniště Skřítek), in eighteen national reservations and in six natural monuments. The role of the protected landscape area of Jeseníky is to keep the ladscape and the natural heritage in the most preserved condition to the next generations.

National nature preserves

Praděd - the area is 2031.40 ha, was established in 1991, nature has a trait of Norse tundra

Rašeliniště Skřítek - the smallest NNP (National Nature Preserve) in Jeseníky (166.65 ha), protects forest and forest-free peaty area

Rejvíz - Mechová jezírka - little peaty lakes, the country is connected with many legends and tales

Šerák - Keprník - the oldest preserve in Moravia (since 1903), there is a snow cover for 180 days every year

Nature preserves

NP Bučina pod Františkovou myslivnou - it has 13.70 ha, is situated at the slope of the Castle Stream (Zámecký potok), protects authentic beechwood

NP Františkov - situated near village Františkov u Branné, the reservation is not open to the public

NP Borek u Domašova - above the Hare Stream (Zaječí potok), protects a ground cover of firs, spruces and larches

NP Pod Slunečnou strání - protects authentic mixed forest and rookeries of protected species of birds

NP Rabštejn - protects mixed and beechen forests

NP Filipovické louky - secures peaty and waterlogging meadows

NP Vysoký vodopád - – the highest waterfall in the Jeseníky Mountains, originally it was 45m high, it was disrupted in many cascades in 1880

NP Šumárník - reservations at Šumný peak (1073 m above the sea level)

NP Sněžná kotlina - the role of the reservation is to protect an iceberg at the eastern shoulder of Red Mountain (Červená hora)

NP Niva Branné - secures the wold of Branná River (řeka Branná), where protected plants grow and protected animal live

NM Přírodní památka Chebzí - defends especially protected plants

NM Přírodní památka Smrčina - a mineralogical important area

NM Přírodní památka Zadní Hutisko - a mineralogical locality in a derelict stonepit

NM Přírodní památka Pasák - a group of protected log-cabins and rock-gardens

Other natural interests

The Cave at Pomezí (Jeskyně na Pomezí) - the biggest cave system made of crystalline calcite in the Czech Republic, the visiting trail is 530m long; on view from April to October

The Cave at Špičák (Jeskyně na Špičáku) - the oldest documentary proof is dated back to 1430, the visiting trail is 230m long; on view from April to October

The Nýznerovské waterfalls (Nýznerovské vodopády) - a system of waterfalls and cascades, total height is 14m
