The heart of The Jeseníky Mountains is the protected landscape area of Jeseníky. It was established at borders of Olomouc and Moravia-Silesia regions in 1969 and has 740 sq km. 80% of the area is covered by forests. The most precious parts of the landscape area of Jeseníky are protected in four national natural reservations (Praděd, Šerák-Keprník, Revíz, Rašeliniště Skřítek), in eighteen national reservations and in six natural monuments. The role of the protected landscape area of Jeseníky is to keep the ladscape and the natural heritage in the most preserved condition to the next generations.
